Southern Historical Images is unique within world of professional photography because, not only are we an award winning historical structure photography service, we also conduct extensive historical study into the architecture and construction as well as any remodeling or demolition of such structures and the families or individuals associated with these buildings for our clients and customers. Specifically, we have won first place in the Historical Division of the Photographic Contest conducted by the Civil War Preservation Trust and the History Channel, we have won a position with the Architectural Institute of America in their annual calendar, and won awards from a number of newspapers in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

Also, the staff of Southern Historical Images can assist you properly researching and preparing your application for submission to your appropriate State Historical Archives Department and the United States Department of Interior to have your structure, if it qualifies, included in the National Register of Historic Places.

ABOUT US

As our name implies, our award winning historical photographs and other photographic documentation services are for the most part limited to homes and other structures built in the South or associated with the South. This, of course, does not limit our portrait, wedding, christening and senior portraits. But, our historical pictures are limited to Structures built in the South or associated with the South. These are primarily located in the States of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. However, homes and structures in Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and the area around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, National Military Park may included. Also included are structures in the area around St. Genevieve, Missouri, which were constructed by French settlers and are quite reminiscent of places in Louisiana.

Additionally, we have consultants on staff whom are educated and trained to do architectural drawings of the structures and to prepare an interior review and drawings of the structure. This particular service is done on a per structure basis so for more information, please contact us at mailto:wsb@greatsoutherngalleries.com.

WHY SHOULD I HAVE MY HISTORIC
HOME/STRUCTURE DOCUMENTED?

No one expects that their historic home or business will be destroyed or heavily damaged by fire, tornado or a hurricane, but disasters do happen especially along the Atlantic Coast and the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. In that unfortunate event, not only is extensive documentation helpful in filing for insurance claims, but when the time comes to restore you home, if you do not have photographs of the original interior and. or furnishings, it can be a most difficult, if not impossible, task.

Greenwood Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana, for example, was one of the first historic ante-bellum houses to allow patrons to freely photograph its interior. In 1960 the house was struck by lightning and burned. However, the new owners were able to obtain over 300 pictures of the interior and exterior of the house and, because of this photographic documentation, 23 years later, the house was completely restored. For more information on Greenwood Plantation, see http://www.greenwoodplantation.com.
